IFS Cloud Cable Car was opened to the public in June 2012 before the start of the London Olympics formerly known as Emirates Cable Car. The cable car was an attraction added to London’s great attraction list and has been a great crowd-puller ever since. It is the first cable car to be built in the UK. The cable car aims to allow the public to travel efficiently during peak times of the Olympics. The London Thames Cable was majorly sponsored by Emirates Airlines till September 2022. The total cost of the construction was £60 m and the major part of it is funded by Emirates £24 million. £36 million was invested by the TFL.
Recently the contract between Emirates and TFL ended the sponsorship with Emirates and IFS became the Cable car sponsor for 2 years.
IFS Cable Car Route
The cable car will run between new stations from IFS Greenwich Peninsula on the South London side and the Emirate Royal docks on the North London side. Many have predicted that cable cars will become a tourist attraction instead of a daily commute. In either case, London will benefit from this add-on to the London attractions.
On 28th June 2012, IFS London Cable Car was opened to the general public. IFS Cloud Cable car provides a paramount Thames River crossing for east London commuters. London cable car provides an important link between the O2 and Excel London.
As you fly 90 metres above the River Thames, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the London City including:
- St Paul’s Cathedral
- The Gherkin
- Thames Barrier
- Maritime Greenwich
- Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
There’s plenty of space within the cars and comfy seats with our own unique Transport for London touch. So enjoy this wonderful hidden gem, just 15 minutes from central London.
