Coronavirus London Latest Information and Advice

29 March 2021: What’s changed

Some rules on what you can and cannot do changed on 29 March. However, many restrictions remain in place. It would help if you did not socialise indoors with anyone you do not live with or have formed a support bubble with. You should continue to work from home and minimise the number of journeys you make where possible. You should get a test and follow the stay-at-home guidance if you have COVID-19 symptoms.

You can read the “COVID-19 Response – Spring 2021 (roadmap)” for more information on the roadmap out of lockdown in England. It is underpinned by law.

From 29 March:

  • you can meet outdoors either in a group of 6 (from any number of households) or a group of any size from up to 2 households (a household can include an existing support bubble, if eligible)
  • you can take part in formally organised outdoor sports with any number of people (outdoor sports venues and facilities will be able to reopen)
  • childcare and supervised activities are allowed outdoors for all children
  • formally organised parent and child groups can take place outdoors for up to 15 attendees. Children under 5 will not be counted in this number

Keeping yourself and others safe

You should stay 2 metres apart from anyone not in your household or support bubble where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings) if you cannot stay 2 metres apart.

You should follow the guidance on how to stop the spread of coronavirus at all times, including if you have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

You should follow this guidance in full to limit the transmission of COVID-19. It is underpinned by law.

Face coverings

You must wear a face covering in many indoor settings, such as shops and places of worship, and on public transport unless you are exempt. This is the law. Read guidance on face coverings.

If you are clinically extremely vulnerable
If you are clinically extremely vulnerable, you could be at higher risk of severe illness from coronavirus.

If you are clinically extremely vulnerable, you should continue to follow the guidance for people who are clinically extremely vulnerable. From 1 April, you will no longer be advised to shield. However, you should continue to take precautions to protect yourself.

If you have been vaccinated against COVID-19

To help protect yourself and your friends, family, and community you should continue to follow all of the guidance on this page even if you’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The vaccines have been shown to reduce the likelihood of severe illness in most people. Like all medicines, no vaccine is completely effective, so those who have received the vaccine should continue to take recommended precautions to avoid infection.

We do not know how much the vaccine stops COVID-19 from spreading. Even if you have been vaccinated, you could still spread COVID-19 to others.

Meeting family and friends indoors

You must not meet indoors with anybody you do not live with or have formed a support bubble with (if you are eligible), or another legal exemption applies.

Meeting friends and family outdoors (rule of 6)

You can meet up outdoors with friends and family you do not live with, either:

  • in a group of up to 6 from any number of households (children of all ages count towards the limit of 6)
  • in a group of any size from up to two households (each household can include an existing support bubble, if eligible)

If you’re in a support bubble

If you are eligible to form a support bubble, you and your support bubble count as one household towards the limit of 2 households when meeting others outdoors. This means, for example, that you and your support bubble can meet with another household, even if the group is more than 6 people.

Where you can meet

You can meet in a group of 6 or a larger group of any size from up to 2 households (including their support bubbles) outdoors. This includes private outdoor spaces, such as gardens, and other outdoor public places and open venues. These include the following:

  • parks, beaches, countryside accessible to the public, forests
  • public and botanical gardens
  • the grounds of a heritage site
  • outdoor sculpture parks
  • allotments
  • public playgrounds
  • outdoor sports venues and facilities

If you need to enter through a house to get to a garden or other outside space and there is no alternative access, you should wear a face covering, wash or sanitise your hands when entering, and then go straight to the outside space. If you need to use the bathroom, wash your hands thoroughly and go back outside immediately. You should maintain social distancing from anyone who is not in your household or support bubble.

When you can meet with more people or meet indoors

Gatherings above the limit of 6 people or 2 households, or gatherings indoors, can only take place if they are permitted by an exception. These exceptions are listed on this page.

Where a group includes someone covered by an exception (for example, someone who is working or volunteering), they are not generally counted as part of the gathering limit. This means, for example, a tradesperson can go into a household without breaking the limit if they are there for work, and the officiant at a wedding would not count towards the limit.

Notting Hill Carnival Going Digital for August 2020 Festival

Notting Hill Carnival Going Digital for August 2020 Festival

Notting Hill Carnival announced that they are going Digital for the coming annual August 2020 calendar festival. This is not a surprise as many festivals are hit by the COVID Pandemic. The street festival in London attracts more than a million visitors every year. The main parade starts on Great Western Road, winding its way along Chepstow Road, then on to Westbourne Grove, and then down Ladbroke Grove. However, all this is set to change this year.

Matthew Phillip, executive director of organisers Notting Hill Carnival Ltd, said the event which will be broadcasted globally over four online channels will offer viewers a peak behind the curtain of Europe’s biggest street party. It will include performances, interviews and cookery shows.

He told the Standard: It was not right to not do anything. We wanted to celebrate the carnival and the people behind it. With it being digital, now it is an around-the-world experience – it is going global.

Speaking about the logistics of hosting a digital carnival, Matthew said: Lockdown has meant that we have all fast-forwarded in terms of technology. It is something we should have been embracing before, online and broadcasting. This is a new kind of carnival. It was always going to adapt and we are going to be embracing it. It is an opportunity to open people up to the carnival and give people a peak behind the curtain.

The cancellation of this year’s physical festival marks the first time it is not being staged on the streets of Notting Hill and Kensington since it was launched in 1966.

London Tourists Attractions and Restaurants are Opening – COVID-19

///

From 4th July London is opening its doors to tourists. Many see the move as caution. Many still think it’s the right move. We all need to make sure that we take all the right precautions while moving around within London or coming to London for holidays, tourism, and family meetings after more than 3 months of COVID-19 lockdown. London will never be the same, as some say. But we need to support our businesses and kick-start the tourism economy with caution.

Londoners are urged to become Tourists – Sadiq Khan

Londoners are urged by the government (Sadiq Khan) to become tourists in their own city to support COVID-19 recovery. The city has been massively hit by the pandemic. And everyone dreads a long painful recovery for local businesses. Experts are contemplating a slow tourism recovery, as many nations are still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. European countries have somewhat recovered from the pandemic, but we all need to be cautious and start travelling responsibly. London locals are allowed to move around the city without any restrictions and are asked by the government to visit London’s beautiful sites.

Strawberry Moon over the UK

/

An incredible full moon was spotted in the skies above the UK on the 5th of June 2020 night. The full moon, this month known as the strawberry moon or rose moon reached its peak this night and made for some fantastic photography across the country from the late afternoon into the evening. This full moon is referred to as the Strawberry Moon by Native American tribes, as it typically comes at the time of year when strawberries begin to ripen.

There’s often a myth the strawberry moon gets its name because it has a pinkish tinge to it but that’s not the case. June’s full moon is known as the Strawberry moon because it coincides with strawberry picking season in the USA. A spokesperson from the Royal Observatory said: In North America, harvesting strawberries in June gives that month’s full moon its name.

The moon rising behind the Shard in London
The moon rising behind the Shard in London

To some, it appears either pink or red when it is close to the horizon, however, it is viewed through a much thicker layer of the Earth’s atmosphere.

The full moon also coincides with a penumbral lunar eclipse, whereby the Earth comes between the Sun and the moon and blocks some of the light. The reduction in light resulted in a reddish tinge on the moon’s appearance, which is why it is coined a strawberry moon.

Strawberry Moon, rises behind Wembley Stadium in north west London
Strawberry Moon, rises behind Wembley Stadium in northwest London

“In the current climate, a lower than average level of pollution combined with a good weather forecast made the view even clearer.”

Why is it called a strawberry moon??

Different cultures have assigned a variety of names to full moons across the lunar calendar in history, but the most well-known and commonly used full moon monikers, such as the strawberry moon, came from Native American culture.?

In June, the full moon is known as the strawberry moon because, in North America, the harvesting of strawberries has historically taken place in June.?

The June moon is also known as the rose moon. in some European cultures, while other cultures know it as the hot moon because it marks the beginning of the warm summer season.?People enjoyed the spectacular view at night. For some, it’s a great opportunity to take photographs.

What is the risk of getting Coronavirus COVID-19 on an Airplane?

Because of how air circulates and is filtered on aeroplanes, most viruses and other germs do not spread easily on aeroplanes. Although the risk of infection on an aeroplane is low, travellers should try to avoid contact with sick passengers and wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser that contains 60%-95% alcohol.

What happens if there is a sick passenger on a flight?

If you see anyone sick around you, inform the air hostess, and stewards to take necessary action and seat the sick person in isolation. Give your contact information to the airline staff. Once you land at any of the United Kingdom Airports example Heathrow airport, you and the sick passenger will be quarantined at Holiday Inn and will be kept in isolation and appropriately treated.

What if recently travelled to an area affected by Coronavirus COVID-19 and got Sick?

If you were in a country with a COVID-19 outbreak and feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, within 14 days after you left, you should

  • Seek medical advice – Call ahead before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room. Tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.
  • Avoid contact with others.
  • Not travel on public transportation while sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to avoid spreading the virus to others.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water immediately after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains 60%? or 95% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

Please be responsible for your own health and make sure to take all necessary precautions while travelling to London anywhere. Coronavirus has turned into a pandemic, it’s our duty to take care of our health, maintain social distancing, and wear masks in all public areas.
